Welcome to the beautiful island of Majorca with its 90 plus beaches, clear blue sea, glorious countryside, friendly people and activities galore for all ages.

Although it's commonly spelt Majorca in the UK, locally the island is referred to as Mallorca. Just to complicate things further, when it comes to pronouncing Mallorca you need to turn the two 'l's into a 'y' therefore pronouncing 'ma-yor-ca'. The changing of the 'l's into a 'y' is common - for example Soller becomes 'Soyer'. Discover more about the Soller Majorca resort.

Majorca is the largest member of a group of islands known as the Balearics. Other islands within the group are Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. The island of Majorca measures 100km from east to west and 75km from north to south. It has approximately 555km of coastline.

For a relatively small island, Majorca has plenty to offer. As well as numerous beaches Majorca also has castles, caves and mountains to explore.

The capital of Majorca is Palma which is home to almost half of Majorca's 777,000+ native population. Palma's airport, Son Sant Joan, recieved more than 19,200,000 people in 2001 which is a huge increase from the 500,000 that visited in 1960. Two thirds of Majorca's population are employed within the tourism trade, not hard to imagine when you consider Majorca has over 250,000 hotel/apartment beds available to rent and around 200,000 restaurant tables to serve.

Only 35/45 minutes by taxi from the airport, Cala D'Or is one of the most beautiful areas of Majorca on the southeast of the island. Further north on the island you have the ever popular resort of Alcudia - a particular favourite for families no doubt thanks to it's long stretch of beach and beachside hotels.
